An Extremely Rare And Highly Desirable Superb Museum Quality Genuine Late Ming Dynasty Chinese Jian Sword Circa 1630.

24 and 1/2 inch double edge blade of classic shape which inspired the Japanese ken blades. The steel of superb quality likely pattern welded.

The hilt with magnificent pierced central section cross guard framed by two finely chiseled open mouthed dragons. Above the cross guard is a hexagonal ferrule finely tapered toward the guard. The splendid waisted hexagonal rosewood grip is tapered towards the ferrules and framed at each corner by golden wire. The top ferrule pierced through and tapering toward the large pierced and chiseled pommel in the form of a blossom.

The original scabbard of black lacquered wood (lacquer alligatored with age but otherwise pristine) with superbly pierced and relief chiseled chape and locket in floral design. The original hangers pierced and chiseled with further blossoms.

The quality throughout is of such a high degree that it might be said to approach that of a Chinese Imperial weapon, Condition is fine to excellent. 31 inches overall out of scabbard. 33 inches overall in scabbard. This is the finest Chinese sword we have ever had the pleasure of owning and are proud to offer it for sale.
