A Truly Superb Soten School Japanese Samurai Sword Katana Tsuba Signed Soheishi Nyudo Soten Circa 1700.
The finely russet patinated iron plate is 3 inches in diameter. The two hitsu-ana are plugged with lustrous black shakudo. The rim is gold Damascened. The pierced design comprises superbly detailed priests carved in the round with silver faces and very finely gold inlaid robes and ribbons.
The human figures all in the round in a wooded landscape. The quality and excellence of design validates the autograph nature of the Soten signature. Condition rates excellent. This is an important tsuba for the collector or perfect for mounting on a fine Shinto katana.
