A Fine Long Tuscan Steel Mounted Snaphaunce Belt Pistol Lock Dated 1767.
9 and 7/8th inch ‘Spanish’ form barrel with double ‘wedding band’ and gold filled ‘Pistoia’ cartouche with three fluer de lis in gold. .45 caliber smoothbore. Fine beveled snaphaunce lock with female triton chiseled in relief at tail and scroll engraving. Finely formed and chiseled battery.
Elaborately pierced and engraved steel sideplate with large dragon to the right of a central face adorned by two female figures with sagging breasts. Original long steel belt hook. Triggerguard and rear ramrod pipe chiseled in relief with Roman portraits. Steel thumb piece pierced with a crowed figure flanked by two female busts. Engraved spurred buttcap with chiseled portrait pommel cap.
Elaborately carved dark walnut fullstock, Ramrod with worm is the original. Good condition overall with only minor wear throughout. 15 inches overall. This is an elegant Tuscan snaphaunce belt pistol with excellent form and slightly longer than usual, rarely seen outside of Italy.
