A Very Handsome New York Engraved Hopkins & Allen Merwin And Hulbert 7 and 1/2 Square Butt Scoop Cylinder Revolver Circa 1880.
7 and 1/2 inch round barrel. Marked on left side of frame “CALIBER WINCHESTER 1873”, chambered in 44-40. The barrel with finely executed New York Louis D. Nimschke scrolls decorating the area around the lug in a most tasteful coverage. The cylinder with border coverage and finely engraved between the scooped flutes. The frame engraved tastefully in the rear ensuite with the barrel.
Frame and barrel retain 30% thinning original nickel finish with clear markings throughout. Butt retains original lanyard loop. Original pearl grips fit well with good “fire” or opalescence and only minor chips which only add to this revolver’s aura of America’s Western Expansion.
Action works but lock up is loose from use and half cock is gone. The bore is fair. This Merwin would look great in any display of late 19th century Western arms.
