An Extremely Rare 17th Century South Indian Hooded Hilt Indian Sword Possibly Madruai.
The tapering flattened diamond section blade is 34 inches long. The russet iron hilt of hooded style extending over the forte, shaped, engraved langets with foliate terminals. The guard with side bars ending in bud terminals. The outer guard is a recurved plate with monster finial.
The guard decorated overall with sparse engraving showing wear expected after more than 300 years. A lovely lotus flower on the guard, Indian swords of this form and rarity are never offered for sale in America. 41 inches overall.
