An Extremely Rare All Original English Civil War Dog Lock Flintlock Military Holster Pistol Circa 1645 In Untouched Condition Throughout.

12 inch round smoothbore barrel octagonal at the breech. 60 caliber. Barrel with no proofs as expected during the English Civil War between the Royalist forces of King Charles I and the Roundhead (named after their helmets) forces under Oliver Cromwell, later the Lord Protector.

Plain but well constructed classic mid 17th century English dog-lock with large flat hammer and shield shaped frizzen. Plain iron triggerguard and curved trigger, No sideplate as expected on these ultra rare pistols. Lock is retained by two original military size side nails.

Blackened English walnut fullstock. In remarkably fine original condition considering military service in a fratricidal 17th century Civil War. Iron ramrod is seized.

This remarkable pistol is in what collectors who value originality refer to as “In The Black”. This condition is highly prized for both buyers of fine Kentucky rifles and 17th century English holster pistols both civilian and military.

Original pewter buttcap. 19 inches overall. These dog lock pistols found their way to Colonial America doubtless carried by feeling Royalists. Rarely if ever offered for sale. Colonial collectors do not miss this extreme rarity.
