A Most Unusual And Attractive 45-70 Caliber Slotter Style Sporting Rifle Made From An 1873 Springfield Trapdoor.
31 and 5/8ths inch heavy octagonal barrel with orthoptic front sight and Winchester style leaf rear sight. The barrel unmarked, retaining 80% thinning blue finish. The breechblock stamped “MODEL 1873”. Serial number on breech 473644. Plain lock with Western style hammer. Finely curled triggerguard with double set triggers. Fancy and elaborate rear sight with Vernier style elevation and oversized eyepiece. Crescent steel buttplate. Barrel secured by heavy duty double wedges.
Beautifully figured striped walnut half stock with pewter nose cap, hickory cleaning rod. Set triggers need adjustment. The bore is a mirror, At 11 pounds 8 ounces this is a really remarkable trapdoor sporting rifle designed for match shooting.
