An Extraordinary Revolutionary War Period Full Silver Mounted Cutlass Possibly American Circa 1775 In Original Scabbard.
Heavy 21 and 3/4 inch blade with single fuller. Vestiges of engraved decoration including sun in splendor and trophy of arms. Lovely well executed full silver mounts incasing recurving guard, cut work ferrule, and silver pommel ensuite. Beautiful green stained fluted, writhin bone grip in very fine condition. 1 and 3/8th inches wide at forte.
Original black leather scabbard with fine silver chape and locket. This fine cutlass retains its original silver chain hand guard. From the renowned collection of Martin B. Retting and still retaining his lead collection tag. This lovely cutlass hung proudly in the hall way of Martin’s penthouse apartment. A full 27 inches long out of its scabbard.
