A Fine, Rare, And Desirable Classic Brescian Steel Tracery Decorated Flintlock Holster Pistol By Ivano Garrato Circa 1660; 15 and 1/4 inch superbly executed barrel signed by the legendary Lazarino Cominazzo. 38 caliber.

The barrel exhibiting the finest Cominazzo style with narrow fluted central ridge. Elaborate central ‘wedding band’ and fully fluted breech section ending in ridged read sight. The barrel boldly signed with the master’s signature “LAZARINO COMINAZZO” leaving no doubt as to the the make. Barrel condition is good overall with minor professionally cleaned surface corrosion to be expected after nearly 400 years.

Mid 17th century Italian lock deeply chiseled at the pointed tail with scrolls and a trefoil blossom. The lovely serpentine cock chiseled ensuite with the lock. Chiseled pan and frizzen chiseled with a shell. All small parts are original. Lock indistinctly signed in script “Ivano Garrato”, signature worn. Triggerguard chiseled ensuite with lock and hammer. The sideplate inlaid with classic Brescian pierced and engraved steel tracery. Long steel belt hook. Beautiful Mid 17th century umbrella steel buttcap relief chiseled with two fantastic monsters amid foliage. The wrist with two panels of lovely engraved Bresian steel tracery. Pierced trigger. A further panel of Brescian steel tracery forward of the lock. Single pierced ramrod pipe and fore-end tip. Original steel tipped ramrod.

Finely molded Italian root wood fullstock in fine condition throughout with little wear and no damage. Lovely carving forward of the tracery band. 22 inches overall. The action is excellent on both half and full cock and the bore is good. Most 1660 flintlock pistols were shortened as gunpowder improved and 15 inch barrels were no longer necessary to burn poorly mixed and corned gunpowder. This Garrato/Cominazzo pistol embodies all the elegance of the mid 17th century as well as the beauty of Brescian engraved steel tracery inlay.

A rare opportunity to acquire a complete 1660 period flintlock holster pistol by two masters of the art.
