A Very Fine Quality English Percussion Traveling Pistol With Captive Rammer By Manton & Co, Dover Street, London Circa 1850.

3 and 5/8th inch round smoothbore barrel with top flat. Barrel retains 90%+ original striped brown finish, signed “London” in beautiful engraved script. Engraved breech with single platinum band. Finely engraved double bolted lock with push-on safety. “Manton & Co, Dover Street” in reserve surrounded by foliate scroll engraving. Hammer engraved ensuite with foliate scrolls.

Engraved steel triggerguard with classic acorn finial retaining considerable peacock blue. Barrel wedge held by two silver escutcheons. Trigger with beautiful niter blue on sides. High figured deluxe walnut full stock. Ebony fore-end cap. Bag type grip is finely checkered. Vacant silver thumb piece. Front and rear sight. Finely engraved breech tang.

The action is tight as new on both half and full cock. Bore is fine. Overall condition is fine with wood retaining much original varnish. 9 inches overall and a very high quality English percussion pistol from one of England’s premier 19th century makers.
