A Very Rare Ottoman Khanjar With Engraved Rock Crystal Hilt Circa 1750 In Its Period Fabric Covered Wood Sheath.

8 and 1/2 inch curved double edged wootz blade with tight Damascus pattern, silver collar with fleurett. Finely shaped rock crystal hilt beautifully shaped with top flat and deeply engraved throughout its length with scrolling foliage. The rock crystal itself of exceptional quality with no cracks or large inclusions and is in remarkable condition.

The blade shows wear but rates good overall. The fabric covered scabbard shows its age and much of the original gold thread has been worn away. Do not confuse this lovely period Ottoman khanjar with the innumerable modern imitations offered through nearly every Internet auction,
